Imagine munching on a piece of hard candy when you hear an awful cracking sound. You realize that you’ve broken or cracked a tooth. The enamel that covers our teeth is extremely durable and in fact is one of the hardest substances known to man, but it does have its limits. This is especially true if you’ve neglected your dental health in the past and have a few cavities.

Tooth decay and gum disease compromise our oral health and often lead to even greater problems. Many people will deal with a broken or chipped tooth at some point in their lifetime, but there are some excellent measures your dentist can take to fix them.

Caring for a Chipped or Broken to Use

If you’ve just broken or chipped a tooth, then call your dentist and schedule an appointment as soon as possible. If you are experiencing pain, you can take almost any over-the-counter pain reliever. Once you get home, rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Be sure to keep your mouth clean and free of germs as an infection could easily occur.

For a beautiful smile, braces are still the leading solution. In addition to traditional metal braces, you can also get Invisalign for just a few dollars more. This is a really great solution because it’s comfortable to wear and practically invisible. But there are a few other types of braces too that you might consider. Call your orthodontist to learn all about them.
